Istanbul Gelisim University has added another major success to the national achievements of its young athletes. The U23 Freestyle Wrestling Türkiye Championship, held at the Trabzon Ortahisar Beşirli Sports Hall with the participation of 103 clubs and 460 athletes from across Türkiye, featured intense competition in the final matches. Competing in the 86 kg category, Istanbul Gelisim University Faculty of Sports Sciences student Ahmet Yağan delivered an outstanding performance, surpassing his opponents and becoming the Türkiye Champion. Demonstrating consistent performance throughout the tournament, Yağan won the final match and claimed the gold medal.
Within the scope of the 2025 call for 2209-A/B University Students Research Projects Support Program by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK), a total of 263 project applications were submitted by students of Istanbul Gelisim University. The program, which aims to encourage the active participation of undergraduate and associate degree students in scientific research processes, once again highlighted our students’ strong interest in and productivity toward research culture this year.
QS (Quacquarelli Symonds), one of the world’s most prestigious higher education ranking organizations, has released the highly anticipated World University Rankings: Europe 2026. Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), recognized for its academic performance and global vision, secured its place among the top 500 universities in Europe, reaffirming its academic excellence. According to the latest results, IGU maintained its position as the 4th among foundation universities in Türkiye, while ranking 6th in Europe in the “Citations per Paper” category, which measures the impact of scientific research. The university achieved the 1st place in Türkiye, both overall and among foundation universities, in this category, i.e., citations per paper, marking a remarkable success.
Istanbul Gelisim University Secretary General Assoc. Prof. Serdar Egeli and Faculty of Applied Sciences Asst. Prof. Muzaffer Çakmak visited the Renaissance Polat Istanbul Hotel within the scope of university–industry collaboration efforts. During the meeting, they met with Hotel Manager Elif Denktaşlı and Executive Chef Arif Madakbaş to discuss potential areas of cooperation. As part of the visit, discussions focused on strengthening education–industry integration in the fields of tourism, accommodation, and gastronomy. Collaboration models based on bringing together the university’s academic knowledge with the practical experience of the sector were emphasized.
Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU) paid a technical visit to Balparmak, one of the leading organizations in the gastronomy world, in order to crown the education protocol signed between the two institutions with academic projects. The delegation, consisting of IGU Secretary General Assoc. Prof. Serdar Egeli, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Head of the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Prof. Aslı Albayrak, and Asst. Prof. Mehtap Çerkez Uçar, evaluated joint R&D activities and upcoming-term events during the visit.
